CityGateAtlanta is a new community of believers seeking to connect Christ's Mission to the city. Our times together will include exalting Christ through dynamic worship, equipping to receive empowerment to take Christ's Kingdom into our daily lives, at home, at work, and at play, and building relationships that provide strength and encouragement.
For years, through Kairos Transformation, we have been offering training and equipping to equip the saints for the work of ministry with a vision toward transformation. Increasingly, the awareness of a call of God and a need in the area for a community to be attached to the training center to live out in relationships of support, encouragement and accountability the call to advance Christ's Kingdom has grown. Thus, in faith and obedience to the Lord we are stepping out to simply start gathering those whose hearts resonate with this invitation.
Who & What is CityGate?
We are a new community of believers assembling for the purpose of impacting our city with the Kingdom of God, where we live, work and play. We come from various walks of life and love to celebrate the wonder of God's creativity in how He makes each of us unique in our personalities, gifting and calling to go into all the world making Jesus real. Some of us are members of other local congregations or house fellowships, and some are not. Some come weekly and some from time to time as they are so led.
We are in pursuit of discovering and living out what Jesus meant when He said, "on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it." (Matt 16:18) Certainly, He didn't simply mean a fellowship of believers who enjoy each other's company and gather once a week. Though this is good and necessary. Nor, did He simply mean an organization with a plethora of programs to pick and choose from to meet the personal needs of everyone who joins. Though, again, there is nothing inherently wrong with programs and certainly, ministering to the needs of people in ways that lead to healing, restoration, and strength of faith must be a part of who we are as the people of God. However, neither a community built on fellowship, on programs, or upon meeting the needs of people will prevail against the gates of hell, at least not for long.
We've all experienced the devastation of the enemy's onslaught, even in the midst of great fellowship and amazing programs. The fact remains, Christ said, He would build His church -- His Ekklesia -- and the gates of hell would not prevail against it. He didn't say to Peter that he was to build the church -- that is what Christ does. He said that He gives the KEYS OF THE KINGDOM to His disciples. Keys to unlock the gates of His rule and reign and to bring His Kingdom "on earth as it is in heaven."
We believe that as Christ's Ekkelsia He has set us into assigned spheres to be His "legislative body" to use the "keys of the Kingdom" to progressively advance the influence of His Kingdom culture into all of society. We believe there are two primary components of how Christ has ordained that we fulfill this mission:
- Through exercising spiritual authority in worship, intercession, declarations & decrees, proclamation of His Word, spiritual warfare, deliverance, healing, signs, wonders and miracles, and
- Through implementing strategic kingdom initiatives in every arena of society that reforms the practices and values of culture in righteousness, peace, goodness, kindness, integrity, creativity, humility, perseverance, and faithfulness.
We are disciples who believe we are set in the earth to be reformers, to raise up reformers, and to serve our generation well, even as King David did in his day. We are those who are to take our place to "look and see what the Lord will say" (Hab 2) not just for a one year vision, or even one that is for ten-years. But we are to look thirty, sixty, even a hundred years into the future and cast a vision for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A vision that is larger than ourselves or our generation. A vision that inspires, challenges, and motivates with faith, hope and love to know Christ and to obey His command to make "disciples of all nations" until He returns. When Christ does return, we desire to be found faithful in "occupying until He comes." (Luke 19:13)
Therefore, we are committed to the process of effectively "equipping the saints" to be rightly fit into the Body, and to function as members of "expressions of Christ's Ekklesia" when we gather and when we are sent into our assigned spheres of influence and authority - where we live, work, and play -- in this generation and the ones yet to come.
We are set on a journey to discover the assignments He has for us - individually and collectively - and to walking together to see Christ's purposes fulfilled -- so that He receives the full reward for the price He paid for our redemption. Anything less will not do.
